Indiana to Host Regional Cross Country Meet
Nov. 9, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's and women's cross country teams will be hosting the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, Nov. 12. There will be a total of 65 teams running, including 31 men's teams and 34 women's teams from across the Great Lakes Region. The men's race is slated to begin at 11 a.m. and the women's will start at 12:15.
Each year, there are 31 teams selected to participate in the NCAA Championships. Eighteen of those teams earn automatic bids given to the top-two teams in each of the nine regional sites. The final 13 spots are at-large bids determined by the Track and Field Committee.
Both the Indiana men's and women's teams qualified for the NCAA Championships with at large bids, with both finishing in the top five at the Regional meet last season.
The men's team has qualified for three consecutive NCAA Championships, and four of the last five, finishing as high as 12th in 2003. The women's team has qualified for each of the last three NCAA Championships, finishing as high as 14th in 2002.
