    Won football letters in 1958, 1959 and 1960...played end and led IU in receiving in both 1958 and 1960...All-Big Ten in 1960 and a third team All-American...IU's Most Valuable Player in 1960...played in East-West game, All-American game and Hula Bowl...later played professionally for many years, most of them with the San Diego Chargers...member of the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame.

    Won swimming letters in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 and was captain in 1977...won NCAA individual championships in 200 freestyle in 1974 and 100 and 200 freestyles in 1976...swam on four NCAA championship relay teams for seven NCAA championships overall...won six Big Ten championships in 50, 100, and 200 freestyles in 1976 and 1977 and also swam on eight relay championship teams...won Pan American gold medal in 200 freestyle in 1977...won two World Championship individual titles and five relay crowns ...in 1976 Olympics won 100 meter freestyle and also swam on winning 400 medley and 800 freestyle relay teams for three gold medals in all...earned title as "World's Fastest Swimmer" in 1976 and was the first person to break 50 seconds in 100 freestyle... held American records in 100 and 200 freestyles for ten years.

    Won football letters in 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944 as a center...honorary captain in 1943...captain in 1944...Indiana's Most Valuable Player in both 1943 and 1944...first team All-American in 1944...played in 1943 East-West game and in 1944 Blue-Gray All-Star game... played professionally for Miami Seahawks and Green Bay Packers...inducted into National College Football Hall of Fame in 1990.

    Won basketball letters in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950...captain in 1950...won baseball letters in 1949 and 1950...played on IU's last Big Ten Championship baseball team in 1948...Indiana's Most Valuable Player in basketball in 1949 and 1950...first team All-Big Ten in 1950 ...All-American in 1950...was Indiana's all-time scoring leader at end of career...coached freshmen at Indiana in 1951, 1952, 1956 and 1957...moved to varsity in 1958 and became head coach in 1966, winning Big Ten co-championship in 1967...resigned from coaching in 1971 to become special assistant to the Athletic Director...became Associate Director of Athletics in 1976 and retired from IU in 1987.
