Player in 1982...first team All-American pick by the Helms Foundation in 1982 and 1983 and third
team All-American pick by UPI in 1982...averaged a career best 19.6 points per game in 1982 and
finished his career with a 12.1 scoring average...his 1,336 career point total is among the all-time
leaders at Indiana...set IU record in 1981 by making 18 of 18 free throws against Illinois and
ranks third on IU career list for free throw percentage.
Sunder Nix
Won track letters in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984...won four Big Ten indoor championships at 440 yards,
including world indoor record in 1984 and two Big Ten outdoor championships at 400 meters...was also
on the winning relay team...world best time at 400 meters in 1982...NCAA indoor champion in 1983
at 600 yards...1983 Bronze Medalist World Champion...1983 U.S. National Champion at 400 meters...
1983 Olympia Award winner...member of 1984 U.S. Olympic Team and won gold as leadoff leg in the
4 x 400 relay team...1984 IU Athlete of the Year...1984 Big Ten Athlete of the Year...still holds

Ken Sitzberger
Won swimming letters in 1965, 1966 and 1967...the first of the great divers in the Hobie Billingsley
regime at IU...won Big Ten one and three meter titles in both 1966 and 1967, NCAA one-meter championships
in 1965, 1966 and 1967...won NCAA three-meter championships in 1965 and 1967 and three NAAU championships
in 1964 and 1965...Gold medalist in the 1964 Olympics in springboard diving.
Vernon "Whitey" Wilshere
Won baseball letters in 1933 and 1934...perhaps the greatest pitcher in IU baseball history with a
8-1 record in 1933 and 9-1 record in 1934...held IU record for season wins until 1985, a span of
51 years...had 109 strikeouts in 82 innings in 1934 and 88 strikeouts in 77 innings in 1933, still
IU records...his 197 career strikeouts is still third on IU lists...IU's career leader in earned
run average with a 1.12 mark, while season marks of 1.10 and 1.17 rank second and fourth...received
the L.G. Balfour Award for baseball at IU in 1934...went straight from IU to the majors with the
Philadelphia Athletics before suffering arm problems after 10-12 major league record in three years
...entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and became a commissioned Lieutenant from the Naval Academy, serving
as an officer and a baseball coach.
