    Hall of Fame - 2005 Inductees

    Seven inductees joined the Indiana University Athletics Hall of Fame during a ceremony held Friday, October 21, 2005 at the IU Auditorium.

    Gayle Blevins
    Softball Coach, 1979-1987

    Women's softball coach from 1979-1987; led IU to Big Ten Championships in 1979, 1980, 1983, 1986. Her teams played in the College World series five times, with a 2nd place finish in 1980 and a 3rd place finish in 1986. In 1983 and 1986 Blevins' teams were the NCAA Midwest regional champs. In 1986 named both Regional and National Coach-of-the-Year. Overall coaching record of 301-146. Is currently head softball coach at the University of Iowa. .

    Gene (Pat) Gedman


    Gene (Pat) Gedman
    Football, 1950-1952

    Won football letters in 1950, 1951, 1952; team captain in 1952. Indiana's Most Valuable Player in both 1951 and 1952. First Team All-Big Ten in 1952, and at one time held IU game, season and career records in rushing. Still ranks 10th on career rushing list; 16th on season list. His 187 yards against Pittsburgh in 1951 was a record for 25 years. Also held game, season and career records for rushes. Played in East-West game in 1952. Played professionally with Detroit and was on an NFL championship team.

    Deborah Edelman Kane
    Tennis, 1990-1993

    Won tennis letters in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993; team captain in 1993. Member of four Big Ten Championship teams; 1st team All-Big Ten in 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993. Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1990 and Big Ten Player-of-the-Year in 1990 and 1992; All-American in 1991, 1992, and 1993; Indiana Female Athlete-of-the-Year in 1993; played in NCAA singles championships and doubles championships all four years.

    Dale A. Lewis
    Tennis Coach, 1949-1957

    Tennis coach from 1949-1957. Under Lewis IU went from no Big Ten wins in 12 years to 3 Big Ten titles and 2 runner-up finishes. Overall record 124 wins and 21 loses; Big Ten record 51 wins and only 11 defeats. In championship seasons of 1952, 1953, and 1954; IU twice was undefeated in league play and in 1954 went 19-0 overall. His players won 22 singles and doubles championships in Big Ten Championship tournaments. In 1984 was inducted into the International Tennis Association Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame. Graduate of Utah State and later tennis coach at the University of Miami (Fla.), was inducted into the Hurricanes Hall of Fame.

    Shaun Micheel


    Shaun Micheel
    Golf, 1988-1991

    Won golf letters in 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991. All-Big Ten in 1990 and 1991. Big Ten Player-of-the-Year in 1991. Big Ten medalist in 1991 with a record score of 276; leading the Hoosiers to a Big Ten championship. Led Big Ten in scoring average in 1991; one of only two players to do so. A current member of the PGA Tour and won the PGA Championship in 2003.

    Fred W. Schmidt
    Men's Swimming and Diving, 1963-65

    Won swimming letters in 1963-65. Won three Big Ten titles in butterfly events and swam on winning relay, NCAA champion in 100 and 200 butterfly in 1965; won two AAU individual titles and was on the winning relay team. In the 1964 Olympics won a gold medal on the 400-medley relay team and bronze medal in the 200 butterfly.

    Pete Stoyanovich
    Football, 1985-1988

    Won football letters in 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988. Won soccer letters in 1985, 1986, and 1987. All-Big Ten in football in 1988; 2nd team All-American in 1987. Set IU records for field goals in a season (17) in 1988; extra points in a season (45 in 1988) and consecutive extra points (107) which is a Big Ten record. Ranks 4th on IU's career scoring list with 248 points. One of the most accurate kickers in NFL history over his 12 year career with Miami and Kansas City.
