BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the second consecutive Saturday the Indiana University track and field team will host a bitter rival in a dual meet. Coming off of last weekend's sweep of the Tennessee Volunteers, IU will host in-state nemesis Purdue on Saturday evening.
These teams split the both the indoor and outdoor meets last season, as the Indiana men prevailed over the Boilers. The added depth of the Indiana roster should help the women's team close the gap on a Purdue squad that competed very well in Championship meets a season ago.
Four school record holders will compete for the Hoosiers. Willie Morrison will be one of the three shot putters to throw in the meet. The sophomore shattered the school record in the first meet of the season. Morrison threw 19.47m (63-10.5). Teammate David Schall will also be competing. Schall, also a sophomore, stands sixth in the history books with a heave of 18.41m (60-4.5).
Katherine Receveur, who comes off an unbelievable cross country season, will be running in the mile and the 3,000m run. The sophomore started her season with a bang, beating the school record in the 5,000m run by nearly seven seconds. Her time of 15:50.30 makes her one of two athletes to run under 16 minutes in the event. The All-American will look to continue her recent success against heated rival Purdue.
Daniel Kuhn will be running in the 600m run. Kuhn owns two indoor school records, both in the 600m and 800m run. In the Big Ten Championships last season Kuhn powered through to a victory with a time of 1:16.02. The junior also ran 1:47.83 in the 800m run at the Hoosier Hills meet last season.
Brenna Calder owns the school record in the 1,000m run. At the Hoosier Open Calder ran a 2:46.48, winning the race and establishing the school record. Calder also ranks seventh on the mile run charts with a time of 4:42.60 at the Meyo Invitational last year. Calder will be running in the mile on Saturday.
The meet will get started promptly at 4:00 pm with a quartet of events. The field events will start with the women's long jump, women's pole vault and the women's weight throw. The track events will kick off with the women's 60m hurdles. The men's 4x800m relay will conclude the meet, with an approximate start time of 6:55 pm.
