
Hoosiers Drop Home Finale to No. 34 Northwestern

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's team played four of six singles matches to three sets, but came up short on Sunday in a 7-0 loss against No. 34 Northwestern at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Hoosiers (11-11, 2-5 Big Ten) lost the doubles point as Northwestern claimed wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles.
Northwestern carried that momentum to singles, where they won five out of six first sets.
The Hoosiers showed their fight as they won the second set in three of the five singles matches.
The Wildcats won at No. 3 singles in straight sets, but Natalie Whalen came back to force a tiebreak to extend her match. She ultimately lost the match and Northwestern got out to a 3-0 lead in the overall match.
On court one Madison Appel came back from a first set loss to win set two in dramatic fashion with a 10-8 tiebreak. Appel dropped the final set of the match to Northwestern's Maddie Lipp.
Paula Gutierrez and Kim Schmider playing in their last home match each lost their first set, but came back to win their second sets. Alicia Robinson won her first set, but dropped sets two and three.
Up next the Hoosiers will play their final four matches of the regular season on the road, starting with a trip to Madison, Wis., on a match on Friday April 14.
