CHICAGO, Ill. – Following an uncharacteristic third set, the Indiana volleyball team (7-0, 0-0 B1G) put the pressure back on to finish out a four-set victory (25-15, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16) over Loyola (Chicago) on Friday (Sept. 12) evening at Gentile Arena in Chicago.
A balanced offense was key as the Hoosiers picked up their second true road win of the season. All five primary attackers had at least seven kills on the night. Senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles had a match-high 17 kills while senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum followed closely with 15 kills (.500 hitting percentage).
The Hoosiers got their middle blockers involved in a big way on offense against the Ramblers. Senior Madi Sell and sophomore Ella Boersema combined for 15 kills with just three attacking errors. Freshman setter Kričković recorded a career-high 47 assists and helped the team hit .338 (61-17-130) on the night.
Big runs of serve from Alonso-Corcelles (two aces), graduate student outside hitter Jessica Smith (three aces) and freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager (two aces) helped see IU over the finish line. Sell had a hand in six of the team's seven blocks. Freshman libero Audrey Jackson matched a career high with 14 digs.
After winning the first two sets on Friday evening, the Hoosiers set a program record with 20-consecutive set victories. Dating back to last season, IU has won nine-consecutive matches and 10 of the last 11 overall. The Hoosiers will go for another perfect weekend tomorrow (Sept. 13) against Stephen F.
