BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana baseball shortstop Phillip Glasser, a Second Team All-Big Ten selection in 2023, is right on the verge of a massive breakthrough in his professional career. After tearing the cover off the baseball during the 2025 season, Glasser was named the Washington Nationals Minor League Hitter of the Year on Tuesday (Sept. 23) morning.
Across 124 games played between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester, Glasser hit .302 with 143 hits, 71 runs scored, seven home runs, 49 RBIs, 60 walks and 32 stolen bases. The Tallmadge, Ohio native expanded his defensive range by playing middle infield and corner outfield positions for the Nationals' organization.
At the end of the minor league season, Glasser made the jump to the International League with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. He went on to slash .391/.481/.522 across 12 games played. In just three seasons of minor league baseball, Glasser has 279 career hits. In five years of college baseball, the veteran infielder racked up 285 base knocks.
The former 10th-round draft pick (2023) will be on the verge of the big leagues when the 2026 campaign begins. He will seek to be the seventh former IU player that was coached by head coach Jeff Mercer to debut in the MLB when the spring rolls around next year.
