BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– As Indiana Football's Week 9 matchup versus Minnesota on Saturday (Oct. 31) approaches, fourth year defensive back Amare Ferrell and fifth year offensive lineman Bray Lynch addressed the media inside the Don Croftcheck Football Team Room on Tuesday (October 27).
Below is a partial transcript of the press conference, while video of the media sessions can be found on the right sidebar at IUHoosiers.com.
On his recent stretch of interceptions…
AF: I really just want to say I want to give all the praise and coach change for putting me in that position to make those plays, he always talks about whenever that play comes to you, you got to be the one that makes the play. Nobody else can make that play for you. So when I get an opportunity to make a play, I'm going to make sure I make that play. ?
On being a leader in the room…
AF:?I just doing everything the right way, you know, uh, the way that coach Cig wants it done. And like you say, for the younger guys, it's just looking up, not just being somebody that's a talker, just being somebody that lives it every single day and same for the transfers. I just want somebody that can look up to or just see that I'm doing it right every single time.
On his relationships with the other defensive backs…
AF: Oh, yeah, we real close. I mean, we do everything together off the field. That's basically who you're going to see, see me with a lot of the defensive backs because, I mean, we always have to communicate. ?We're always together, but I mean, just being on the field, I mean, it's real easy because I know what they're thinking, they know what I'm thinking. So just going out there playing for each other is it just makes it easy for everybody.
On moving from guard to center…
BL: I mean, I would just say, you know, moving and snapping. That's always a tricky one to just get used to. But I would say just the communication aspect of it, as an O-lineman, you're always communicating no matter what position you're at. But at center, you've got to be much louder so that everyone can hear you, even the backside tight end. So I would say that's one thing that people don't really notice. But being very vocal and as loud as you possibly can in a place like the big house.
On what the offensive line is focused on in practice the most…
BL: I think tempo, being up pace and getting upset fast as we can, and really eliminating the mistakes, eliminating the clutter to play full speed out there and be fully decisive on the field. I think that from week one to now, you definitely see improvement right there. Even though we still need to improve on those, I think also as you play with a group of guys as tight as we all are, you can definitely just feel like everyone's trust in one another. That hey, on this when they do this, I know you're going to be right there, so I can focus on the next thing. And I think that's definitely improved as we've gone.
