Indiana Field Hockey to Open Season In Maine

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana Field Hockey's 2025 season is set to begin this weekend as it takes on two east coast opponents. The Hoosiers will start the season at Maine. They will begin with a neutral site game against No. 8 Boston College (Aug. 30) and then will face Maine (Sep. 1) in Orono.

- Indiana Field Hockey is ready to begin its 2025 campaign anew after finishing 9-9 in the 2024 season.
- The team will build on a successful 2024, when they defeated three ranked teams and competed in the Big Ten Tournament.
- After losing 11 seniors from 2024, the Hoosiers are led by three seniors this season. The Hoosiers add 11 freshmen to their 2025 campaign.
- Indiana returns 15 players from last year's team while losing eleven from a season ago.
- The Hoosiers return their top scorer from 2024 in Inés Garcia Prado (8). Mijntje Hagen scored five goals for the team in 2024 and Hannah Riddle added two.
- Indiana welcomes nine new freshmen to Bloomington for the 2025 season.
- The freshmen include Lily Freeman, Georgia Rottinghaus, Molly Stutte,Rylee Brooks-Booth, Kiki Oomens, Celia Arroyo Cabezudo, Ella Davis, Sydney Meltzer and Kai Killian.
- Head coach Kayla Bashore begins her seventh season leading the Hoosiers.
- The ties between Indiana and Boston College's coaching staff dates back over 15 years.
- IU's Head Coach Kayla Bashore and Boston College's head coach Kelly Doton — former Team USA Olympic teammates (2008 Beijing Summer Games) — face off to open their respective 2025 campaigns.
- Boston College's head coach Kelly Doton served as an assistant coach for IU Field Hockey from 2008 to 2012.
- The Hoosiers open the 2025 season in Orono, Maine, starting with a neutral site game with No. 8 Boston College before a game against Maine.
- The Eagles finished the 2024 season with a 14-7 record and reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This was their second consecutive season finishing with double-digit wins (11-7 in 2023).
- This will be the third time the Hoosiers take on the Eagles in program history. Boston College leads 2-0.
- IU will stay in Orono for a game against Maine. The Black Bears finished the 2024 season with a record of 11-9. Maine has finished with eight or more wins over the last four seasons.
- This will be the fourth time IU and Maine have matched up in program history. Maine leads the series 2-1.
- Indiana's Inés Garcia Prado, Emma Thompson and Mijntje Hagen were named to the Big Ten's preseason Players to Watch list.
- Senior Emma Thompson, a captain in 2024, is once again a team captain in 2025. Junior Inés Garcia Prado was voted in as a team captain for the Hoosiers as well.
- Indiana's roster bolsters a former high school duo who are once again playing together at the collegiate level. Javi Baeza and Charlotte Glasper played together at Shaker Heights High School (Ohio).
- The Hoosiers further their international talent, expanding the number of countries represented on the team. Lily Freeman and Elen Nicholls came to Bloomington from England while Keke Sluiter, Kiki Oomens and Mijntje Hagen travelled from the Netherlands. Emma Thompson is from New Zealand. Both Celia Arroyo Cabezudo and Inés Garcia Prado represent Spain in Bloomington.
